What Is Covered?

Cost of water loss due to a leak
The water service line protection plan will cover the cost of water loss due to a leak on the Member’s service line from the point of connection at the meter to the connection to the house. All Members will still be offered a one time per member leak adjustment for leaks that may not be covered by the Water Service Line Protection Program, such as but not limited to leaking toilets, faucets, water heaters, etc…

Leak coverage
The Water Service Line Protection Program will cover a leak at the water service line connection point, including fittings. If a Member opts out of the Water Service Line Protection Program, a leak at the fitting outside of the meter pit would be the Members responsibility.

Repair or replacement
Repair or replacement due to normal wear and tear of a leaking, low pressure, or permanently blocked exterior water service line, for which the member currently has sole responsibility, and which runs from the meter to serve their residence use up to $1,500.00 per instance.

Help locating the leak
Currently EJ Water’s staff will provide you with information and tips on how to locate a leak. If a member cannot locate their leak and requests a field service technician to help them, a $50 service fee will be charged. The service charge will cover a field service technician inspecting the meter, inspecting the service line area from the meter to the residence or facility and verifying meter reading equipment is working properly.

Leak at an outside hydrant
If a leak occurs at an outside hydrant, the Water Service Line Protection Program will cover a repair or replacement of the service line to the hydrant, following Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) plumbing codes. If the plumbing code requires an upgrade to the outside hydrant, this will be at the Member’s expense.

Leak at the foundation
If a leak occurs at the foundation, the Water Service Line Protection Program will cover a repair or replacement up to 2 ft from the foundation. If a shut off valve is not present, one can be installed for the owner at an additional expense.
Opt-Out
All EJ members with a residential meter will be opted into the water service line protection program in order to ensure coverage for a monthly fee of $3.95 per month. If a member opts out of the program, they will be responsible for all repair or replacement costs, plus all water loss.
A Member can opt out of the water service line protection program at any time unless a request for repair has been filed. Once a request for repair has been filed the Member must remain in the program for at least one year (12 months). To opt out you will need to authenticate you’re the account owner by entering your phone number or email. Once you have authenticated that you are the owner you can complete the opt out form.
